Simple Tooth Extraction

Extractions are performed for a wide variety of reasons, including tooth decay that has destroyed enough tooth structure to prevent restoration.  Extraction of teeth that are not impacted and are fully erupted are considered simple surgical extractions.  Any dentist can perform a tooth extraction, however an oral surgeon is specialized in extraction of teeth. 

 

Extractions can be done under local or general anesthesia.  The average healing time after an extraction is about 3 to 5 days, however, some may take up to 2 weeks.
